This hilarious project transforms pithy comments about life in PoCo into a delightful original choir piece. Comments and complaints about
life in Port Coquitlam have been gathered and put to music. Participation was FREE and open to all ages 13 and up. Singing experience was not a requirement. The PoCo Complaints Choir is organized by musicians of Trinity United Church and supported by the Port Coquitlam Parks and Recreation Department. Following the initial session in October hosted by City Parks and Recreation, organizers put the various complaints to music. Choir members rehearsed at Trinity United Church for several weeks and in November and December 2009, the PoCo Complaints Choir performed in public three times. Audience reaction was great! People enjoyed the humour and sang along on the chorus.

December 10, 2009: WESTCOAST CANADA HAS NOW FOUR COMPLAINTS CHOIRS

After successful Complaints Choir projects on Gabriola Island, in Sointula and Vancouver, the area is stepping up its complaints efforts with a new choir established in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. By rough estimation the area could have the highest density of complaints choirs worldwide. The Port Coquitlam Complaints Choir was initiated by Judy Johnson. In an article by the TriCity News she tells about the choir:

"We complained a lot," Johnson laughed. "We wrote down all the complaints and then we wrote the lyrics and composer Wayne Sawyer put it to music. We had so much fun with this." The result is an eight-minute piece with about five different songs in it.

After looking at the rather long list of complaints, Johnson said they discovered that some emerged with their own rhythm. Like the story of a bear climbing into a garbage bin, "which everyone in PoCo can relate to. That piece is called the Bear Bin Boogie."

"We complained about taxes of course, about traffic, about bridges, about bears and garbage, the underpass, the traffic around Safeway - everyday PoCo stuff," Johnson said. "The brief songs are like a series of excursions around the City - and the challenges people encounter in each unique area."
