The Skinny on Trinity

Here is a sampling of our community involvement
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

  • Helping the Hungry:

The Share/Port Coquitlam Food Bank began here in 2003 when people from the church and the community joined forces. Trinity provides a location and volunteers. A soup kitchen is available on the second and third Wednesday of each month.

  • Helping the Homeless:
During the winter months of 2006-07 Trinity hosted a pilot project for the homeless. The Extreme Weather Mat Program is designed to give the homeless a place to sleep when the weather is extreme (minus 4 degrees or similar conditions). People stay the night, have hot food, sleep in a safe place, have a small breakfast and are back outside by 6 am the next morning.

  • Helping Families:

For almost 40 years, Kiddies Korner Parent Participation Pre-School has operated at Trinity. Info @ 604-941-4919 or www.kkp.ca

  • Facilities Upgrade:
Trinity has taken some remarkable steps to upgrade our facility. These include up-to-date lighting, audio and projection systems, T-link for hearing impaired and automated Main Entrance for wheelchair access. The main Sanctuary holds 250 people comfortably. Our Fellowship Hall and other meeting rooms are available for use by community groups. Rentals fees may apply
    .

  • Advocate for Social Justice:
Since 2007, response to our Social Justice Film Festivals has been excellent. Those in attendance showed a keen interest in the topics and discussions. Our spacious Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall were the venues. Check back at our website each fall and spring to see up-to-date information.

  • Annual Christmas Bazaar:
Come join us for fun, food, great gift shopping and entertainment at our annual Christmas Bazaar - usually on the last Saturday of November. This is a great source of gift ideas and stocking stuffers, as well as quality hand-made items for sale. Proceeds support the United Church Women.

  • Relay for Life:
Since 1998, Trinity teams have participated in this Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser. Each June teams of 10 ro 12 people (not all church-goers!) walked, rolled, strolled and ran in circles for twelve hours to support the Relay for Life. In 11 years of participation Trintiy teams have raised over $106,000!

  • Helping Seniors and Low Income Families:
In the 1980s the congregation decided that affordable housing was a priority. Trinity had property behind the church buildings that was not being used. The land was officially severed and Stewart House was built on the banks of the Coquitlam River. It is a 31-unit low-income, subsidized housing project was constructed with all management provided by Trinity people.

  • Wellness and Healing:

Healing Touch sessions are available several times each month. Call the office for dates/times.

  • Helping Shut-Ins:
Once each month, our ministry team visits Hawthorne Lodge in Port Coquitlam to conduct Sunday services for residents unable to get out for regular worship.

  • Helping Other Churches:
In 1999, the building belonging to St. Catherine of Alexandria Anglican Church (downtown PoCo) was condemned. When they came calling for a place to worship, we invited them to share our premises. We continue to enjoy their presence.

  • Helping You Save Money:

Trinity’s Thrift Shop operates two half-days each week for most of the year. This is a favourite place for every bargain hunter! check out the racks once or twice a month for new items!

    Helping Through Music:
  • Trinity’s award-winning choir presents modern or traditional music at services. The Choir rehearses on Thursday evening. (Come by just to listen if you like.) Christmas and Easter are special times at Trinity United. A musical presentation or Cantata is usually featured. Children and youth often perform a musical seasonal play at Christmas.
  • Worship:
Regular worship services are held every Sunday at 10:30 am. Everyone is welcome.
Services are a blend of traditional and contemporary using a variety of music and modern musical presentations. All family members are encouraged to participate.
